You will need to watch the entire tape real time while its recording.

2. Record the video real time on video capture software on your computer. Cyberlink PowerDirector is a good option. 

3. Save the MP4 files to a space on your computer with plenty or memory available. 

4. Stop the video after you think there is no more recorded video on your camcorder tape.

5. Playback the recorded mp4 video to make sure there are no glitches in the video or audio. (This happens sometimes when your computer isn't fast enough or doesn't have enough memory available)

6. We always recommend saving your digitized family videos in at least two places. So you can leave it stored on your computer or maybe even a high quality USB, but we also suggest your iCloud or Google Cloud. 

Be aware that all capturing needs to be done in real time! There is no way to speed it up. So however many hours of footage are on the tapes is going to be how many hours of capture time are needed.
