There is no other way to properly enjoy Aja by Steely Dan, or a timeless Beatles vinyl obviously. Analog audio has that nice warm sound that you just don't hear very often these days. Add the organic yet subtle clicks, pops and fizz from vinyl and you have something truly special.

Some music just sounds better in an analogue format, enjoyed as an album. Ask any person who is a fan of vinyl and they'll say that a big part of why they still choose to engage with the format is that it keeps the analog recording to analog playback pipeline "pure". But obviously, vinyls aren't going to be an "on-the-go" solution.
Unless you have an Audio Technica Mr. Disc or Sound Burger device. But I'm going to go ahead and guess you're already halfway through Googling what that is. If you're interested in buying one, be aware that they're only "okay" from my experience.
The cassette format is still a format that sounds good with the right player and a good pair of headphones. Seriously. Try this out if you don't believe us. Grab a portable cassette player from the early 1990s. Go to Amazon and buy a pair of Koss Porta Pro headphones. Next, grab a copy of Listen Like Thieves by INXS and go walk your dog or something.

Seriously, these things sound incredible for only about $50. I could write an article about just these, but Vice beat me to it.
Now tell me that wasn't a unique experience worth enjoying every once in a while. It doesn't have to be INXS. It could be Frankie, Barbara, Neil, or The Dan for some of you that might be a little more, well, Boomer. But chances are, that experience is going to kick up some serious nostalgia that will be very welcome today.

Do you have a relative born after 1995 or so? There is no better way to expand their musical palette than to gift your cassette collection to them. You may not think that they would have any interest, but have you asked? Maybe tease them first and see if they love the vintage analog vibe.
Retro technology from just before someone was alive has been something that younger people have been generally interested in for a long time. I mean they are clearly interested in Atari or Nirvana t-shirts. However, a lot of the vinyl boom in the 2000s can be traced back to Millennials at the time becoming familiar with the format and simply wanting to play around with it in their college dorm rooms.
Then there's the whole "style" of it. Retro is almost always fashionable, and in a social media age where being unique is a struggle that many people seem to have, an interesting new hobby can be just as big a deal as any sort of designer apparel or accessories. It's also a great way to potentially introduce a ton of music to someone that the algorithms on Spotify never would.
It pays to remember that the Sade or Seal tape you would probably never listen to again, is something they have never heard before, and sometimes things become cool again in totally new ways. I mean, look at this insane release from 2018 by MACROSS 82-99 that sold out almost immediately to a younger audience.

Not all mixes are the same, and if you have some cassettes that you swear are just better than their CD or digital versions, you may not be crazy. When moving recordings to CD and digital, many if not most albums had to be remastered or mixed again. And not every recording made that jump well. Tastes when it comes to compression and overall loudness changed dramatically during the CD era, and in many cases kind of ruined the dynamics of a lot of great albums. The Loudness Wars were not kind to many recordings.
