Homestead's Media Preservation Challenges
Homestead faces the most extreme preservation challenges in South Florida:
Located at the southern tip of the Florida mainland, Homestead sits directly in the hurricane corridor. Hurricane Andrew devastated the city in 1992, and the area remains highly vulnerable to tropical storms. Extreme summer heat, persistent humidity above 80%, and flooding from heavy rains threaten collections stored in homes along Krome Avenue, Campbell Drive, and throughout the Redland agricultural district. Older structures throughout the area rarely have climate-controlled storage.
This is not a someday project. Every year of delay means more irreplaceable content lost to moisture, mold, and mechanical failure. Your family's memories deserve preservation now.
We built Forever Studios because every family deserves to have their memories preserved the right way, by real people, with real equipment, under one roof. Homestead families trust us because we treat their collections the way we'd treat our own.

Frequently Asked Questions: Homestead
Yes. We have worked with many Homestead families who have 8mm and Super 8 film of life on and around the base, as well as footage from before Hurricane Andrew. Military home movies are among the most meaningful recordings we process, and we take extra care with these historical pieces.
Homestead's subtropical climate accelerates tape degradation. Store your tapes indoors in the coolest, driest room available, ideally with some air conditioning. Avoid garages and storage sheds. The sooner you get them digitized, the better; tape quality declines every year in South Florida conditions.
We have successfully recovered content from tapes that survived Andrew in 1992. Water damage, mold, and heat exposure are common in tapes stored through that era. Our cleaning and transfer process can often extract usable footage even from tapes that appear badly deteriorated.
Homestead is about an hour from our Boca Raton studio via the Turnpike. You can drive up or use our prepaid shipping kit. Given the distance, many Homestead clients choose shipping for convenience. We include tracking and insurance on all shipments.
We digitize whatever your collection contains. We have scanned photos of the Coral Castle, the old downtown district, Biscayne National Park outings, and family farming life in the Redland area. Each print or slide is scanned at high resolution and delivered digitally.
Digital files do not degrade over time the way magnetic tape does. A VHS tape stored in Homestead conditions loses quality every year. Digital MP4 files and high-resolution photo scans, when backed up properly, will last indefinitely and can be copied without any quality loss.
We can add chapter markers for longer tapes and label each file with descriptive names based on your instructions. If you know what is on each tape, include a list with your order and we will label the files accordingly, making it easy to find specific moments later.
