Frequently asked questions
What should I expect during our newborn photo shoot?
A newborn session is all about the new addition to your family. And such, patience is key! It all depends on the baby’s mood and willingness to sleep. We let the baby lead. Posing can take a bit of time. The newborn shoot is 60 minutes. to allow plenty of time for feeding, changing, and pampering breaks for the little model. Please do not stress, we will get the perfect shots!
What is the best age for newborn photos?
One to two weeks old. The best time to take newborn photos is when the baby is less than 2 weeks old. Babies at this age tend to sleep more soundly, allowing us to pose the baby better to create the best possible portraits. Once your baby is older than 2 weeks, they tend to be more restless and much more difficult to capture the certain image you want.
How should I prepare the baby for the shoot?
Make sure he/she is extra sleepy. The photo shoot goes much smoother when the baby is fast asleep. We recommend that you do your best to keep the him/her awake before the shoot so when it comes time for the shoot he/she will sleep like a baby.
Can I bring additional props?
Sure! Bring anything you want! We encourage you to bring anything to help you create your special photographs. Keep in mind we have a collection of baskets, blankets, flowers, as well as other props we can use for you newborn’s photo shoot. If there is a certain color theme you are looking to capture, please let us know ahead of time. If we do not already have those colors, we can look into getting some.
Who can come?
We welcome you and your loved ones! We encourage both parents as well as any siblings to come to the session. Part of the 90 minutes will be used to take photos of the family. Additional family is welcome, however we do not want to many people to crowd around the baby and keep him/her from a peaceful sleep. Perhaps invite the family to the last 30 minutes of the shoot. We tend to save the last 30 minutes for photos with the family.
What should we wear?
Coordinate your wardrobe, but not too much. One element to achieving a natural and relaxed family photo is for everyone to be in their own style of clothing. What I suggest is to coordinate color tones instead of being ‘matchy matchy’.
Keep it simple. Whites and blacks are always a good choice but feel free to throw in a bit of color if you’d like, but keep it simple.
Do you have any tips on hair and makeup preparation?
You want to achieve a natural even skin tone. Fingers and toes should be clean and groomed. We will do a few shots of your hands holding your baby. We suggest nails should be a natural color, although, you want to be careful your nail color doesn’t detract from you and your family.
Come hair and makeup ready. We also recommend you bring a brush, comb, etc for touching up during the shoot. Be sure to cover any blemishes, however we do offer retouching services.
Do you do more unique photography?
Yes! We offer DreamPics photography. More information can be found on our DreamPics page.
